Extraterrestrial Activity

Special Overview 2022

This Overview summarizes recent discoveries, trends, and developments in the field of UAP (Undefined Aerial Phenomena) research. It provides a Special Case Study on U.S. report “Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” published on June 25th.

Taking it as one of the main sources, the Overview expands the theme to a global scale and briefly retells the story of humanity to catch the UAP observed.

Since 2004, there have been numerous cases reported worldwide.  Also, there are new advanced technologies (SMART, CORE3D, IARPA) to monitor and discover UAP. However, the challenge is to coordinate international cooperation, develop standardized approaches and provide sufficient funds.

In light of the techno-signatures received from outer space, potential challenges and threats regarding UAP are discussed here.

As result, the brand new reality implies a need to define and elaborate on relevant policies and technologies. SpaceTech Analytics discusses the current and future developments and makes a few projections concerning the future social impacts.

Publication of the report is going to cause increased attention to the UAP all over the world. Additionally, researchers who studied and addressed these issues will be now de-stigmatized. Their scientific works are expected to be more frequently highlighted. There is a possibility for them to receive certain acknowledgments and become opinion-makers in this area.

This is the second iteration of the SpaceTech Analytics report on the UAP activity. With the first report being focused on the US “Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena”, the second version is an advanced version of the first issue with an enhanced analytical basis, supporting IT platform, and the overview of extraterrestrial activity markers and the both government and scientific worlds’ responses on the most curious question ever raised by a human being.

UAP Recognition Report

is the Basis of the Special Overview

Probably one of the most important takeaways of the report is the UAP recognition. Moreover, it states in the report that data gathering and analysis have been executing for 17 years straight. During this period, 144 unresolved UAP-related incidents were documented. One of the first question arises whether or not the general public will be able to assess the data of such incidents, including the comments from governmental authorities.

As was mentioned before, the recognition of the UAP will reshape the structure of the current opinion-makers, including scientists who have been studying such phenomena. This, in turn, might also affect the current R&D focus and existing policies of all types. The unclassified origin of this report brings some other issues, namely the report does not provide any solid or groundbreaking conclusions, and many issues remain, it should put an end to years of intragovernmental infighting over the subject.

The proposal of the scientific study of UAPs, University of Colorado. The study of UAP was deemed to be not scientifically interesting.

02.

The most famous UAP encounters in modern aviation history involving pilot sightings, radar tracking, and objects caught on video remained unsolved.

03.

Deputy Secretary of Defense approved the establishment of an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF). UAPTF should detect, analyze and catalog UAPs that could potentially pose a threat to U.S. national security, improving the understanding of the nature and origins of UAPs.

American Presidents

about UFO

Ronald Reagan.jpg
Ronald Reagan

(1981-1989)

Reagan appeared more enthralled with UFOs than all the US leaders, encompassing Nixon. Reporter Billy Cox documented the many mentions of extraterrestrials in Reagan’s talks and commented about “Ronald Reagan’s abiding fascination with extraterrestrials.” One of Reagan’s daughters also mentioned her father’s obsession with UFOs and life on other planets.

Former President Clinton took a sincere interest in UFOs during his presidency from 1993 to 2001. Clinton genuinely wanted to know what the US government knew about UFOs, according to the memoirs of his associate attorney general Webster Hubbell. Clinton told Jimmy Kimmel in 2014 that he had aides search Area 51 "to make sure there was no alien down there."

(2009-2017)

Barack Obama on Monday offered a blunt assessment of the videos of UAP that have continued to gain attention in the USA.

"What is true, and I'm actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don't know exactly what they are," he said.

During an interview on Dan Bongino’s new radio show, Donald Trump was asked about the existence of UFOs in light of the upcoming release of a report on the phenomena.

I’m not such a believer, but some people are, so I don’t want to hurt their dreams or their fears,” says Trump.

Government Responses

on Extraterrestrial Activity

In 2018, the German Ministry of Economics stated that the German government has no plans or protocol for the case of a first contact with aliens, as the government perceives such event as "extremely unlikely". It also stated that no cases of a first contact are known.

One of the NASA divisions is the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance (OSMA), also known as the Planetary Protection Office. A part of its mission is to “rigorously preclude backward contamination of Earth by extraterrestrial life.”

In 2020, the Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono stated that Self-Defense Forces pilots have never encountered a UFO, and that he does not believe in UFOs. He also said he would consider issuing protocols for such encounters.

In 2016, the Chinese Government released a white paper detailing its space program. According to the document, one of the research objectives of the program is the search for extraterrestrial life. It is also one of the objectives of the Chinese Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) program.

In 2020, chairman of the Israel Space Agency Isaac Ben-Israel stated that the probability of detecting life in outer space is "quite large". But he disagrees with his former colleague Haim Eshed who stated that there are contacts between an advanced alien civilization and some of Earth's governments.

Search for

Extraterrestrial Intelligence

There is a crucial thing in SETI. In order to find life, you first have to find planets that are habitable. In order to be considered habitable, the planet should remain its orbit not too close and not too far from its star because the equilibrium temperature influences the possibility of liquid water being present on the planet’s surface. The star should not have frequent and powerful solar flares because, otherwise, any life form would be wiped out by a deadly dose of radiation.

Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence2.png

Humanity knows about 47 potentially habitable planets, and 11 of them are quite likely to have water on their surfaces. Moreover ,there are theoretically at least 25 millions of Earth-sized planets in Milky Way that lay in the habitable zone of their stars, but it is unknown whether there is any life there.

That is why biosignatures exist. Those are mostly gases such as ozone, methane, carbon dioxide, or water that carbon-based lifeforms need or produce. Spectral characteristics of the starlight transmitted through the planet’s atmosphere reveal the gases within. So seeing such gases in the atmosphere leads us to the conclusion that life is really possible on that planet.

Small solar system bodies

Small Solar System bodies have also been speculated to host habitats for extremophiles. Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe have proposed that microbial life might exist on comets and asteroids.

Jupiter system

Scientists have indications that heated subsurface oceans of liquid water may exist deep under the crusts of the three outer Galilean moons—Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. The EJSM/Laplace mission was planned to determine the habitability of these environments; however, due to lack of funding, the program was not continued. Similar missions, like ESA's JUICE and NASA's Europa Clipper are currently in development and are slated for launch in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Saturn

Like Jupiter, Saturn is not likely to host life. However, Titan and Enceladus have been speculated to have possible habitats supportive of life.

Mars

Current studies on Mars by the Curiosity and Opportunity rovers are searching for evidence of ancient life, including a biosphere based on autotrophic, chemotrophic and/or chemolithoautotrophic microorganisms, as well as ancient water

Other bodies

Models of heat retention and heating via radioactive decay in smaller icy Solar System bodies suggest that Rhea, Titania, Oberon, Triton, Pluto, Eris, Sedna, and Orcus may have oceans underneath solid icy crusts approximately 100 km thick.

Mercury

The spacecraft MESSENGER found evidence of water ice on Mercury.

The Moon

3.5 to 4 billion years ago, the Moon could have had a magnetic field, an atmosphere, and liquid water sufficient to sustain life on its surface.
